Federal Coalition Politicians meet to discuss the need for changes to family law and child support - Nov 12, 2002
Federal member for Dobell, Ken Ticehurst has broken through the inertia of the Government to generate enough interest among MPs, Cabinet members and Ministers to create a committee to push forward changes to family law, child support and other legisalation that impacts on family separation and contributes to the alienation of fathers from their children.
MRA was invited to address the meeting, as was Michael Green, author of Fathers After Divorce and three people who have experienced the devastation caused by false allegations, biased reporting and agenda driven outcomes.
CSA tells only 25% of the story!
According to the latest figures from CSA separated fathers are not so badly
off as they think!
Dr. Warren Farrell is visiting Australia in October 2001 for the release of his new books:
MRA and the Relaxation Centre have organised a series of three meetings,
Oct 25, 26 and 27 2001 when Dr Farrell will talk about and discuss
with you his ideas for reuniting fathers with their children and how
men and women can learn to communicate with each other.

Expanding the Parameters of Parental Alienation Syndrome
Glenn F. Cartwright
Department of Educational Psychology and Counselling
McGill University
The newness of the parental alienation syndrome (PAS) compels its redefinition
and refinement as new cases are observed and the phenomenon becomes better
understood. New evidence suggests that alienation may be provoked by other
than custodial matters, that cases of alleged sexual abuse may be virtual,
that slow judgements by courts exacerbate the problem, that prolonged alienation
of the child may trigger other forms of mental illness, and that too little
remains known of the long term consequences to alienated children and their
families.

Thank goodness decency and commonsense have prevailed. Now we can put the Vegemite jar back where it belongs, writes Padraic P. McGuinness.
The "progressive" consensus is crumbling before our eyes. In matters of policy towards Aborigines, reproductive technology and welfare policy, there has been an outbreak of commonsense. As the Prime Minister, John Howard, said at the opening of the new Quadrant magazine Sydney office a couple of weeks ago, the real divide in our community is not so much between elite opinion and popular opinion, but between political correctness and commonsense.

Interestingly, but not inclued in the article was the fact that in 1993 as the father began proceedings in the Supreme Court the NSW Minister for Commmunity Services, Jim Longley wrote to a women associated with the Marrickville women's refuge assuring her DOCS will defend the action vigorously and that "all the work undertaken by yourself and the other other refuge workers, has greatly enhanced the help available to victims of domestic violence". He made a one off grant of $15,000 to help with the refuge's legal costs.
Arndt comments on CSA Budget changes
"How absurd was media speculation that changes to child-support arrangements introduced in the federal budget were due to last-minute lobbying by angry dads."
Seems Bettina Arndt prefers to diminish the contribution made by dads and dads groups to bring about some changes to the CSA, in favour of academic endeavour. Does she really believe the Government would have bothered to change anything if CSA complaints had not featured at the top of the list of complaints dealt with by each federal politician? Does she really believe the research to which she refers would have been undertaken without the level of complaint? Ms Arndt, I think you give too little credit to the "power of the people".

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) -- "Wait till your father gets home!" used to be a mother's ultimate threat. But with the two-parent household becoming less and less common, University of Maryland researchers set out to study how important contact with dad is to children's development. They found that even when fathers do not live at home, children whose fathers are actively involved in their lives tend to have better cognitive and language skills and fewer behavior problems .
